Concurrent Session
Navigating the Leave Law Labyrinth: Mastering ADA, PWFA, FMLA, Workers' Comp, and More
Potomac Ballroom 1
In-Person Wednesday 11/20/2024 03:45 PM - 04:35 PM   Add to calendar

The Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) applies to employers with at least 50 employees. It intersects with other significant workplace laws such as the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, state workers’ compensation, short-term disability, and employer-provided leave. The inconsistency in regulations and application, along with 13 states plus DC having their own systems of laws, has created significant compliance challenges for organizations. This session aims to explore key similarities and differences among these programs to enhance understanding and ensure compliance.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify the key points of intersection and divergence between FMLA and other related workplace laws.
  • Understand the challenges posed by regulatory inconsistencies across federal and state levels.
  • Develop strategies for ensuring organizational compliance with FMLA in conjunction with other employment-related legislation.
