Mega Session
How to Deliver Bad News and Build Trust at the Same Time
New Orleans Theater
Wednesday 06/21/2017 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM   Add to calendar
1.25 SHRM PDCs | Competencies: Relationship Management, Communication | Intended Audience: Senior-Level
Workplace Application:
This session will help you develop the courage and skill required to facilitate candid conversations that promote healthy relationships and prosperous organizations.

There comes a time in every project or work plan when the inevitable happens: things don't go according to plan and bad news must be delivered. In a business environment marked by tight budgets, compressed time-frames, and rising stress levels, this happens more often than we'd like. This session will explore why bad news is an opportunity, not a liability, and will teach you a technique for communicating tough messages to any stakeholder such that trust levels actually increase rather than decrease. You will learn how to:

  • Link truth-telling to the four essential elements of trust-building.
  • Apply the three question transparency test to determine whether or not something is better left unsaid.
  • Understand the personal barriers you face when it comes to uncomfortable conversations and what to do about them.
  • Practice a time-tested technique for putting hard truths on the table in a socially acceptable way.
