Workplace Application:
You will learn California employment law rules so you can reduce your organization's legal risk and maximize employee engagement.

California is the world's sixth largest economy so odds are strong your organization will soon have California employees if it doesn't already. This session will demystify California employment law by identifying essential California legal rules applicable to each stage of the employee life cycle from recruitment to exit and beyond. We will review California payroll and wage and hour rules, leave, disability and pregnancy accommodation obligations and key differences between federal and California law in the areas of on-boarding, investigating employee complaints and termination.  This session will also provide tips on how best to document California personnel actions so you can defend employee claims in litigation. You will learn how:

  • To comply with and enforce California employment law rules so you can effectively manage employees, reduce organization litigation risk and maximize employee engagement.
  • Multi-state employers can use ethical practice in determining how to comply with California employment law rules which may conflict with and/or significantly expand employee rights in state other than California.
  • To audit your company's compliance with California employment law rules while utilizing the attorney-client privilege, ensuring legal compliance and mitigating risk.
