You understand the importance of diversity, and recognize that encouraging a workplace that embraces diversity of thought paves the way for better problem-solving, more effective goal achievement, and ultimately delivers a strategic advantage. But if we expand on our traditional notion of diversity, there are other elements that can also contribute to an inclusive workplace that encourages our employees to do their best work and contribute to organizational goals. However, some of our common (albeit perhaps unintentional) behaviors, practices, and cultural norms often perpetuate bias and discourage an inclusive environment. This presentation will define these overlooked elements of inclusive workplaces, identify organizational behavior and practices that discourage them, and discuss some simple steps you can take to overcome these obstacles and encourage more inclusive workplaces.
