Home > The Case for Hiring Imperfect People: It’s Time to Consider Applicants Who Fail Background Checks

SHRM 2017 Annual Conference & Exposition
Workplace Application: This session will showcase how companies are successfully recruiting and hiring from the untapped labor pool of applicants with criminal backgrounds.
PowerPoints/Handouts Available

Great job applicants are found in unlikely places: sometimes they’re people with criminal backgrounds who’ve earned and deserve a second chance. This is an untapped pool of applicants for an industry and a city where finding talent is increasingly difficult. Arte Nathan pioneered recruiting among this population and found great success at Mirage, Bellagio and Wynn Las Vegas. Today he’s working with HOPE for Prisoners (HOPE), a Las Vegas-based non-profit that facilitates reentry and reintegration services to men, women, and young adults who are exiting various segments of the judicial system. This session will include a look into HOPE’s programming as well as discussions with a CHRO from a leading entertainment company and a graduate of HOPE’s program to illustrate success stories.
