Home > Dealing with Questions of Nationality and Citizenship

2017 Diversity & Inclusion Conference & Exposition
PowerPoints/Handouts Available

Recent executive orders seek to ban visas from certain countries and require employers to hire Americans first. Additionally, the new Office for Immigrant and Employee Rights is charging employers with discriminating against U.S. citizens and immigrants, and the Border Patrol is searching electronic devices and checking social media for “ideology.” All of this has created tension and confusion in the workplace. This session will examine:

  • The differences between nationality, citizenship, national origin and immigration status, and the workplace rights attached to each.
  • Recent executive orders and regulatory changes and their potential impact in the workplace.
  • Measures your organization should take to safeguard the rights of employees.
  • Emerging issues related to nationality, citizenship, national origin and immigration status and HR’s role in supporting affected employees.
