2017 Diversity & Inclusion Conference & Exposition
Develop emotional and social intelligence related to diversity and inclusion, leading to improved leadership ability.
PowerPoints/Handouts Available

Despite decades of effort to broaden the definition of diversity, it is mostly still defined as “race and gender.” Now is the time to move into a new era in the diversity space—one that focuses on individual uniqueness as opposed to assumed differences. In this session, the Elements of Individuality model will be introduced as the logical next step in Loden & Rosener’s four-phase diversity wheel. This new model incorporates the most up-to-date research in neuroscience, psychology and workplace dynamics to help us discuss the differences that, when harnessed, can create increased productivity for all. It really isn’t just about race and gender anymore, and with so many differences to understand and manage in the workplace, it is important that we be able to discuss them openly. In this session, you will:

  • Learn a new model on differences that will help you create inclusion in your workplace.
  • Learn how to think about differences as Elements of Individuality.
  • Understand how to use the Elements of Individuality model as a conversation starter with people who are different.
  • Practice using the model, and learn how to successfully apply it in your workplace for hiring, retention and leadership development.
  • Hear tips to assist you in intentionally including fellow employees so that everyone feels empowered to bring their best self to work.
