Home > People with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Workplace: An Expanding Legal Frontier

2017 Diversity & Inclusion Conference & Exposition
Learn about the legal issues relating to the employment of people with autism spectrum disorder and explore integration strategies for this group.
PowerPoints/Handouts Available

Experts predict a 230 percent increase in the number of adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the next eight years. This presents an opportunity both for people with ASD to integrate into the workforce and for employers to tap into the talents of a sizable population. It also will create new legal challenges for employers attempting to accommodate this set of workers. This session will address the legal issues relating to the employment of individuals with ASD and will discuss strategies for integrating members of this group into the workforce. You will learn:

  • The key legal obligations of employers to applicants and employees with ASD under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act.
  • The most common areas of liability exposure for employers relating to applicants and employees with ASD, as well as concrete solutions to address these areas.
  • Best practices that will maximize the employment success of applicants and employees with ASD.
