Home > The #MeToo and Times Up Cultural Shift: How to Reduce Disparities in the Workplace

2018 Diversity & Inclusion Conference & Exposition
PowerPoints/Handouts Available

The past year has represented one of the most seismic moments in sexual harassment history that we have ever experienced. This high-octane session will provide an interactive examination of how concerns about sexual misconduct and gender disparities have been impacted by the emerging cultural shift brought about by movements like #MeToo and Times Up, and how you can develop a supportive and progressive organizational culture and use diversity to reduce the risk of harassment. You will learn:

  • The language and tools for managing and responding to the various gradations of gender-based disrespect in the workplace—from outright sexual misconduct to “man-terruptions” and “bro-propriations.”
  • Legally sound strategies and cultural recommendations for bolstering gender inclusion in the workplace.
  • New equal employment opportunity focus areas and trends that businesses should now anticipate in light of these new developments.
  • Strategies for overhauling existing harassment-prevention training strategies in this new era, including whether to include bullying in a handbook and training regarding bullying in the workplace, given that a good number of the recent matters that have made the press involve both sexual harassment and bullying.
  • Leadership guidelines designed to support meaningful and long-term transformations in organizational cultures, including how an effective diversity program can help in limiting sexual and other forms of unlawful harassment.
