The pandemic-induced shift in how and where we work has created unprecedented fluidity in remote work, including use of digital nomad visas to work around the globe, working part-time in more than one location and hopping from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. It has also become increasingly common for foreign national employees to abandon their green cards and for U.S. citizens to renounce their citizenship. This brave new work world carries immigration and tax consequences that can impact both the employer and expatriate employees.

He advises companies on the impact of corporation reorganizations and mergers and acquisitions. Mark also advises researchers and health care professionals on EB-1, PERM, Physician NIW, and Conrad 30 J-1 waivers. Lorraine Cohen is a Partner in the Global Employment Services (GES) practice for Deloitte Tax LLP in San Francisco. She is the Americas Leader for Deloitte’s Emerging Workforce team which includes both Business Travel Analytics and Remote Work practice offerings. She has developed the approach and methodology for mitigating risk for business travelers and remote workers for Deloitte Tax globally.
Lorraine worked with the California Franchise Tax Board to streamline reporting for international inbound travelers to California which resulted in the passage of AB2660, allowing composite filings for international nonresident travelers to California.
