Home > Get on Board: Curating Your Personal Board of Directors for Continued Career Success

2025 Talent Conference & Expo

Organizations - large and small, public and private, nonprofit and for-profit - treasure their boards of directors. Board members provide valuable guidance and oversight, with each member contributing uniquely based on past experience and identified role. Why should we as individuals not benefit in similar ways? Why can’t we curate our own personal board, choosing those who will support, champion, and challenge us toward continued career success?

Well - we can. And this workshop will help you do so. Building on 25 years as a leader investor, Tina Schust Robinson, founder of WorkJoy, will help you identify five critical roles board members play, how each contributes to your personal and professional success, and brainstorm people in your life you may want to recruit. You will draft your own board and learn how to coach others to curate their own.

They say it takes a village to raise a child. To nurture your career, it takes a board.

Learning Outcome 1: Define a board of directors and how it supports organizations.

Learning Outcome 2: Describe the benefits of having a personal board of directors to long-term career success.

Learning Outcome 3: Identify five critical board member roles and potential candidates for each.
