Employees spend more time on social media sites than email. Organizations are exposed to workplace issues, disclosure of business secrets, and deceptive endorsements in social media abuse. Employers also use social media as a business tool. Advantages create new challenges in managing social media use, with limited legal guidance. This workshop will help you understand the concerns, exposure, applicable laws, proprietary information protection as well as endorsement avoidance. You will also learn the components and best practices of a workable social media policy to ensure your organization stays in compliance.

Mr. Fishman chairs the 20-member Workplace Law Group at Bodman PLC. Mr. Fishman has more than 40 years of experience in all facets of labor and employment law, representing management exclusively. He served as a trial attorney with the Pittsburgh Region of the NLRB, was associated with a large Chicago law firm’s labor and employment practice group, was in-house labor counsel to a Detroit-based Fortune 500 manufacturing business, and headed up his own labor and employment boutique law firm, The Fishman Group, with clients throughout the country. Mr. Fishman is a frequent speaker to management groups, such as the Society for Human Resource Management, various health care and construction trade associations, and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, on finding creative, business-oriented solutions to workplace legal problems. He writes a regular column for the Michigan Chamber’s business magazine, Michigan Forward, on emerging workplace law issues. Mr. Fishman is listed in The Best Lawyers in America 2013 under Employment Law-Management, Labor Law-Management, and Litigation-Labor & Employment. He is listed as a 2012 Top Lawyer by DBusiness magazine and is AV® Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
