Home > Comprehensive Immigration Reform: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

SHRM 2013 Annual Conference
Workplace Application: This session will give you the latest information on pending comprehensive immigration legislation that may affect the management of the workplace.
PowerPoints/Handouts Available

The most sweeping legislation to reform our nation’s immigration laws in a generation is moving through Congress. Whether you hire large numbers of foreign nationals or none at all, the comprehensive immigration reform legislation being considered in Congress will impact your business. Mandatory electronic verification by all employers for all new hires is just the start. Legalization of currently undocumented workers may require you to produce evidence of employment for workers you believed were legal and expanded discrimination provisions may expose you to new liabilities. An overhaul of the green card system should help your permanent hires while new legal requirements and significant new fees may limit your ability to easily transfer international employees on temporary assignments. Lynn Shotwell and Mike Aitken will provide an overview of the provisions being considered in Congress, how they will affect your organization and the prospects for reform.
