This session will focus on HR and HRM issues in China as well as provide information on how to manage and motivate people effectively in China.

Track: International HR

With the rapid recovery and development of the Chinese economy, talent management and retention has become a hot topic, particularly for MNCs. Turnover rates in China have been high, as the younger generation search for professional advancement by moving from company to company, seeking higher positions and salaries. At the same time, more and more Chinese companies are expanding through acquisition or setting up subsidiaries in foreign countries. This unique intersection of talent management challenges and globalization gives Chinese organizations a unique opportunity but may also serve as a barrier for success, because of the limited talent pool and lack of experience with cross-cultural issues. By providing data and examples, this session will discuss changes in the Chinese workforce and the challenges posed for HRM, followed by insights on how to manage and motivate people effectively in China.

Presenter:
Ningyu Tang, Ph.D., professor and assistant dean,
Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiaotong University
