1.25 SHRM PDCs, 1.25 HR Credit | Competencies: HR Expertise, Business Acumen | Intended Audience: Mid-Level
Workplace Application:
You will learn about the benefits and risks involved with telecommuting.

The move toward smaller offices and greater remote access with telecommuting brings certain business benefits. But there are also legal pitfalls involving e-mail abuse, invasion of privacy, social media control, theft/misappropriation, wage and hour fraud, workplace accidents and employer liability for misconduct. In this session, you will learn how to maintain control and manage risks while providing flexibility. You will leave with an understanding of how to:

  • Strategically manage employee remote access, telecommuting and mobile connections.
  • Manage employee and labor relations, as well as wage and hour issues you will face with a remote workforce.
  • Review imputed liability—potential employer liability for employee negligence.
  • Maintain compliance with the federal and state laws impacting your remote workforce.
