1.50 SHRM PDCs, 1.50 HR Credit | Competencies: HR Expertise, Critical Evaluation | Intended Audience: Early Career
Workplace Application:
You will hone your recruiting skills, develop practical new tools and learn to avoid potential liability in the hiring process.

Smart recruiting is important for the obvious reason of wanting to attract the best-qualified employees. But in today’s complex legal climate, employers also can be found liable for negligent hiring if they fail to show appropriate due diligence in the hiring process that results in unreasonable harm to others—not to mention the incredible internal costs and potential liability involved in having to terminate a poor hire. This session will cover:

  • Smart recruiting in 10 steps.
  • Are job descriptions really needed?
  • Are background checks and reference checks really that important?
  • Why use work style assessments?
  • A brief review of some sample assessments and how to use them.
  • What documentation is essential at the time of hire?
