Congressional C
Tuesday 03/15/2016 02:15 PM - 03:45 PM   Add to calendar
1.50 SHRM PDCs, 1.50 HR Credit | Competencies: HR Expertise, Global & Cultural Effectiveness | Intended Audience: Mid-Level
Workplace Application:
You will learn how immigration reform developments will impact your organization’s hiring and retention of foreign nationals.

Immigration reform may be stalled in Congress, but the last year brought many changes to how employers hire and retain foreign nationals, requiring more time and more money. Record H-1B cap numbers have increased uncertainty, while requirements and processes for amended H-1B petitions and STEM extensions for recent graduates are more complicated and cumbersome. Rules for green cards are also changing for job portability. In this session you will learn:

  • How your organization should communicate information to manage expectations around the H-1B cap.
  • About new internal checks and processes necessitated by the Simeio Solutions decision.
  • What your organization needs to do and know when hiring STEM OPT students under the new rule.
  • The opportunities and considerations for your organization when employees have increased green card portability.
