Come Out, Come Out wherever You Are...A Review of LGBT Leadership
In-Person and Virtual Tuesday 11/05/2024 03:30 PM - 04:30 PM   Add to calendar
Competencies: Interpersonal (Behavioral), Leadership (Behavioral) | Intended Audience: Beginner (Committing to I&D)
Workplace Application:
Attendees will learn of different ways to engage employees who identify as LGBTQIA+ to see a future in leadership roles within your organization.

In a 2021 study completed by the Medical University of South Carolina, 0.3% of senior leadership positions at Fortune 500 companies are held by individuals acknowledging that they identify as LGBTQiA+. When we look at the political arena, ten people (out of 535) in the US Congress & ten people (out of 338) in the Canadian House of Commons identify as LGBTQIA+. Because of these statistics, it would appear that the LGBTQIA+ may not 'see' themselves as future leaders because of a lack of seeing themselves being represented in these key roles. As such, this session focuses on how we, as HR practitioners, can encourage our LGBTQIA+ employees to see themselves as leaders of tomorrow.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the current research on LGBTQIA+ employees in our society and the lack of representation in both C-Level roles and Political positions.
  • Learn of new ways to spark conversations with your LGBTQIA+ employees to engage the employees in seeing themselves in future leadership roles.
  • Receive practical ways to succession plan within your portfolios to create pipeline growth opportunities with their LGBTQIA+ employees.
