Sessions
This practical session provides evidence-based rules of engagement for developing high-impact mentoring and sponsorship relationships. Topics include the interpersonal habits and behavior strategies of master mentors, including techniques for forming and managing effective mentorships. Sponsorship moves the conversation from interpersonal support to public gender partnership, requiring those of us with comparative experience, social capital, and advantage to move beyond mentorships to deliberate sponsorship and advocacy. Using both evidence-based sponsorship best practice ideas and opportunity for practice, feedback, and discussion, this session dives into the sponsoring elements such as networking, “raving fan” behavior, amplification, transparency about the hidden curriculum, and appropriate ways to insert your protégé’s name into discussions bearing on promotion and pay.
