This session will provide you with an overview of the major best practice principals for any expatriate assignments. 

This session is primarily designed to address multi-national employers sending employees abroad and/or accepting in-bound employees from abroad for assignments of at least one year or more and will provide a comprehensive overview of the various components necessary to achieve a compliant and successful expatriate assignment. This session will address issues that employers who relocate employees around the world must face on a regular basis. Attention will be given to employers based in jurisdictions all around the world and the discussion will not be limited to just issues facing U.S.-based employees. Topics such as social security and tax equalization issues, housing and relocation issues, employee benefits and compensation, contractual obligations, the application of local law and the overall best practices that should apply to handling globally mobile employees. The session will present practical examples to apply to the various concepts discussed. You will leave this session with:

  • An understanding of key issues related to tax equalization agreements and social security agreements in connection with expatriate assignments.
  • The basic foundation for essential best practices as they apply to managing and implementing expatriate assignment agreements.
  • An understanding of the essential components to successful management of globally mobile employees.
  • An understanding of employer obligations with respect to the health and safety of internationally assigned employees.
