Matthew has practiced at Laner Muchin his entire career, joining the firm as an associate in 2011.  Matthew has an extensive employment litigation practice, defending lawsuits in federal and state courts, representing both private and public sector clients.  Matthew litigates cases involving discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims, FMLA and ADA claims, Section 1983 and United States Constitutional claims, Illinois Whistleblower Act and common law retaliatory discharge claims, and common law claims, such as defamation, tortious interference with contract and civil conspiracy claims. 

Matthew has a concentrated wage and hour practice, which includes litigation of complex class and collective actions, representing employers in audits conducted by the United States and Illinois Departments of Labor and performing wage and hour compliance audits.  He also litigates and provides counseling on issues involving wage garnishment, overtime, minimum wage, bonuses, tips and commissions.

Additionally, Matthew has extensive trial experience in both bench and jury trials in federal and state court, which has included delivering opening statements and conducting direct and cross examinations of key witnesses. Matthew also counsels clients, on a near daily basis, on a broad range of employment issues.  Matthew represents clients across a broad range of industries, and he has extensive experience working with clients in the restaurant and hospitality industries.

He regularly services clients on a wide range of employment/labor matters, including, but not limited to: individual, class and collective wage and hour cases; discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims; leaves of absence; domestic violence issues impacting the workplace; disability accommodation; whistleblower claims; unfair competition matters; public and private sector arbitration; employment counseling; drafting and reviewing employment policies, employment agreements, separation agreements, settlement agreements, restrictive covenants, and consulting agreements; and preparing severance plans and related exit program documents for reorganizations.

Antonio joined Laner Muchin in 2008 as an associate and has been a partner at the Firm since 2013. Prior to joining Laner Muchin, Antonio was a labor and employment and commercial litigation associate at a mid-size Chicago law firm.  He regularly litigates substantial-exposure employment litigation matters as the lead attorney, with a particular focus on defending employers against single-plaintiff and class action wage and hour lawsuits under federal and state wage laws. 

Another part of Antonio’s practice involves preventative counseling both public and private employers on a variety of day-to-day employment issues, such as terminations, accommodations under the ADA, FMLA compliance, drafting employment agreements and advising on mass layoffs.  In keeping with his approach to minimizing risks through preventative counseling, Antonio has developed extensive management training programs involving non-discrimination and anti-harassment, minimizing legal risks with effective documentation and performance management, and navigating the troubled waters of ADA and FMLA compliance.  Antonio has significant experience in representing employers in the hospitality, healthcare and retail industries.

Heather joined Laner Muchin in 2006 as an associate and has been a partner of the Firm since 2009.  Prior to joining Laner Muchin, Heather was an associate at a large, Chicago-based law firm where her practice focused on labor and employment counseling and litigation and general business litigation. 

Heather now concentrates her practice on representing public and private sector employers before federal and state courts and administrative agencies in all types of employment litigation, including discrimination, harassment and retaliation litigation, wage and hour and wage payment claims, civil rights and constitutional claims, whistleblower claims, and employment contracts disputes involving trade secrets, non-competes and restrictive covenants.  

Heather also provides counseling services to her clients on a day-to-day basis to help them develop policies and procedures to minimize risk, train employers on best practices to improve employee relations, and develop practical solutions to resolve complex employment disputes before they mushroom into litigation matters.
