Mike Aitken has worked at SHRM since 2003 and currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. Prior to joining SHRM, he served for 14 years as associate director for Governmental and External Relations at the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR). Previously, Aitken worked on state public policy issues at Bonner & Associates, a public affairs firm in Washington, DC. Currently, he is based in Alexandria, VA.

 

John Fay is an attorney and technologist with a deep applied knowledge of business immigration, I-9 compliance and E-Verify rules and procedures.  During his twenty-plus year career, John has advised corporations, educational institutions, and individuals on a variety of U.S. immigration and I-9 issues.  At the same time, he has also been uniquely involved in information technology, having designed several immigration and I-9 management software applications.

As Director of Product Strategy at Equifax, John provides strategic leadership and direction in the development and support of Form I-9, E-Verify, and immigration case management software solutions.

Jon Ingham is a consultant, researcher, writer and speaker focusing on strategic human capital management, HR 2.0 and management 2.0.

He helps organizations gain competitive advantage through the creation of human and social capital supported by effective leadership, HR and management practices, OD interventions, and the use of web 2.0 / social media tools etc.

Jon has worked for 20 years in Engineering, IT, change management and HR (including as an HR Director). He is based in the UK but has a global focus to his role and spends a lot of time in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Jon works with business leaders, HR departments and others to raise the level of their ambition to have more impact in their businesses.

Paula M. Jones is an associate at Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, where she advises clients on estate planning and administration with a focus on international planning. Her practice encompasses all aspects of U.S. estate and gift taxation, the creation and maintenance of U.S. and foreign trusts, pre-immigration planning for non-resident aliens coming to the United States, expatriation tax planning for residents and citizens leaving the United States, charitable giving overseas and other related matters.

Recently named one of the country’s top chief operating officers, Paul S. Amos II has led Aflac U.S. to more than $10.1 billion in sales since he was named President in 2007. In addition to overseeing all aspects of U.S. operations that include 4,400 employees and one of the largest sales forces in the U.S. with more than 70,000 independent sales agents, Mr. Amos focuses on developing strategies that boost U.S. sales, revenue and profits. 

With Mr. Amos at the helm, Aflac has been recognized annually as one of Fortune magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For in America.  As a regular recipient of industry awards and honors, Mr. Amos recently placed no. 6 on ExecRank’s 2012 list of the top 100 Chief Operating Officers in the U.S. 

Active in the community, Mr. Amos participates in a number of professional, philanthropic, and education organizations including serving on the boards of directors for the Winship Cancer Center at Emory University, the Turner School of Business at Columbus State University, and the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Southwest Georgia. He is also a member of the Georgia Research Alliance Board of Trustees and the Duke University Divinity School’s Board of Visitors.

Alexander Alonso, PhD, SHRM-SCP is the Society for Human Resource Management's (SHRM's) Chief Data & Insights Officer leading operations for SHRM's Certified Professional and Senior Certified Professional certifications, research functions, and the SHRM Knowledge Advisor service. He is responsible for all research activities, including the development of the SHRM Competency Model and SHRM credentials.

During his career, he has worked with numerous subject matter experts worldwide with the aim of identifying performance standards, developing competency models, designing organizational assessments, and conducting job analyses. He was also responsible for working on contract task orders involving the development of measurement tools for content areas such as job knowledge (like teacher knowledge of instructional processes) and organizational climates (like organizational climate forecasting in military health care).

Dr. Alonso received his doctorate in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Florida International University in 2003. His works have been recognized for their contribution to real-world issues. They include being recognized by the Society for Industrial Organizational Psychology (Division 14 of the APA; SIOP) with the 2007 M. Scott Myers Award for Applied Research in the Workplace for the development of the federal standard for medical team training, TeamSTEPPS; being awarded a 2009 Presidential Citation for Innovative Practice by the American Psychological Association for supporting the development of competency model for team triage in emergency medicine; and receiving the 2013 SIOP Distinguished Early Career Contributions for Practice Award.

Throughout his career, he has published works in peer-reviewed journals such as Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Perspectives on Science and Practice, Journal of Applied Psychology, International Journal of Selection and Assessment, People and Strategy, Personality and Individual Differences, Quality and Safety in Health Care, and Human Resources Management Review. He has also authored several chapters on community-based change initiatives in workforce readiness, as well as co-authoring Defining HR Success: A Guide to the SHRM Competency Model in Practice.

Dr. Alonso also served as a columnist analyzing major trends in the workforce for The Industrial Psychologist and HR Magazine. In addition, he has served on several professional society boards including the SIOP and the Personnel Testing Council of Metropolitan Washington.

Theresa S. Treat joined the Company in December 2006 as Vice President, Human Resources. Prior to joining the Company, Ms. Treat was Vice President of Human Resources at Cutter & Buck, Inc., and has more than 30 years of experience in human resources, serving at Onvia, Inc., Pointshare, Inc., Nextlink Communications, and Horizon Airlines. She also served as a labor negotiator for employees in the state of Alaska from 1983 to 1990. Ms. Treat currently serves on the Board of Directors of Athletes For Kids, a non-profit organization. Ms. Treat has a Master’s Degree in Labor and Industrial Relations and a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, both from the University of Illinois.

In his current role, Mark is responsible for program development, project management and the expansion of Tanenbaum programs nationally and internationally. A sought-after expert on equality issues like race, gender, sexual orientation and religion, Mark's recent engagements include workshops at SHRM’s Annual Conference & Exposition, the National Association for Multicultural Education, the Out & Equal Workplace Summit, and Multicultural Forum for Workplace Diversity.

Linda Robertson is a Certified Financial Planner™ with Financial Finesse, the leading provider of unbiased financial education for employers nationwide. With over 20 years of experience, Linda has facilitated thousands of financial education workshops to employees on a variety of topics ranging from basic money management and retirement planning to advanced estate planning, in addition to providing financial coaching to numerous employees one on one over the phone and in person at their worksites. Dr. Powell is a licensed psychologist who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
