Sessions
In the U.S., many people trust health care professionals, such as doctors and nurses. However, certain groups have a mistrust of the health care system, as a result of events experienced by previous generations. Without understanding historical trauma, those in the health care profession see patients as being difficult or non-complaint. This session will focus on bringing an awareness of historical trauma and identifying ways to promote trust building. In this session, you will:
- Develop an awareness about historical trauma and be introduced to examples.
- Develop an understanding for how asking the appropriate questions can help to understand the cumulative emotional and psychological wounding experienced by individuals across generations can affect the current thinking and actions of the patients, clients, employees and customers - the people you serve.
- Generate ideas for building trust.
