Paul Begala is a commentator for CNN, where he is part of the political team that has won both an “Emmy” and a “Peabody Award”.  In the 2012 campaign he was a senior adviser for the pro-Obama Super PAC, making Begala one of the few people to play a critical role in electing two different presidents.

After helping engineer Bill Clinton's presidential campaign with his partner, James Carville, Begala served as counselor to the President, one of Clinton's closest aides. He has consulted for political campaigns across the country and around the world, including advising politicians in Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa.

Former President Bill Clinton described his longtime friend and former aide as, "a witty dynamo from Sugar Land, Texas...who brought energy, focus and credibility to our efforts."  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says Begala, "embodies a passion for populism with a commitment to civility, no easy feat."

And radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has said of Begala, "If you don't know who The Forehead is, Paul Begala, he's the guy, the kid that played the banjo on the bridge in the movie Deliverance."

He helped his friend John F. Kennedy, Jr. launch the political magazine George and wrote the "Capitol Hillbilly" column, and is the author of several New York Times best-selling political books.

Begala is an affiliated professor of Public Policy at Georgetown University.  He has also taught at the University of Texas and the University of Georgia.  Along with James Carville and GOP strategist Karl Rove, he was a recently inducted into the American Association of Political Consultants' Hall of Fame.

Cheryl Mohr, is Head of HR Global Operations & Global Functions HR. In addition, Cheryl leads HR for Global Functions which includes Finance, Legal, Marketing and HR. Cheryl has had responsibility for leading a number of major initiatives for HP which included the separation of the HR function as part of the company split and was responsible for leading the HR PMO for HP’s Make It Better initiative.

Cheryl has been with HP for over 33 years, and during this time has served in a number of key HR leadership roles. Cheryl’s prior roles include Sr Vice President for Global Functions; Vice President of Global Labor Relations and HR Compliance, where she was responsible for creating the Labor Relations Function, delivering HP’s labor relations strategy, managing HR Compliance as well as HP’s Contingent Workforce program. Prior to that role, Cheryl was the Vice President of HR for the Americas Region, providing HR leadership to ensure the world class delivery of HR programs and services for the U.S., Latin America and Canada.

Cheryl began her career at Hewlett Packard in 1991, when HP acquired Avantek. Since joining HP, Cheryl has held regional and worldwide HR positions, including HR Manager for Global Support Logistics, HR Manager for the Hardware Services Organization and HR Manager HP Services North America.

Cheryl has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from San Jose State University.

Chatrane Birbal is Vice President, Public Policy in SHRM national’s Alexandria, Va. office. In this capacity, she is actively involved in solidifying strategic partnerships and research to address policy issues on Capitol Hill that impact the workplace. In her role, Ms. Birbal lobbies Congress and develops policies and positions in support of workplace public policy issues including workplace healthcare, workforce development, workplace equity, workplace flexibly and leave, workplace immigration and employer-sponsored benefits (retirement, education assistance, unemployment insurance, among others).   

Prior to joining SHRM, Ms. Birbal was the director of government relations at the Council on Foundations, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit membership association of some 2,000 grant making foundations and corporations, with assets totaling more than $282 billion. During her tenure at the Council, Ms. Birbal implemented strategies and launches programs in support of the organization’s public policy and government relations work. She lobbied Congress on tax legislation relating to charitable giving, raised the Council’s profile with Congress and other nonprofit organizations, advised members on legislative activities impacting philanthropy and planned and executed the Council’s annual legislative fly-in conference, “Foundations on the Hill.”

Prior to joining the Council, Ms. Birbal was a federal legislative lobbyist at the American Psychiatric Association (APA), an Arlington, Va.-based medical specialty society with over 38,000 U.S. and international member physicians who work together to ensure humane care and effective treatment for all persons with mental disorders, including mental retardation and substance-related disorders. During her tenure at APA, Ms. Birbal lobbied Congress on behalf of psychiatrists, planned and executed the association’s annual advocacy day training session for membership as well as developed the APA’s online advocacy action center to further legislative efforts on behalf of the psychiatry profession.

Chatrane previously served on the Board of Directors for the ACT for Alexandria community foundation.  ACT for Alexandria brings the community together to elevate local philanthropic giving and engagement to new heights, supports local nonprofits working to aid the most vulnerable and develops solutions for the community’s most pressing challenges. During her tenure on the Board Ms. Birbal supported the foundation’s initiatives including ACTion Alexandria, an online civic engagement platform and Spring2ACTion, 24 hours of online giving to support local nonprofits.

Chatrane obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the State University at Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y. and received her graduate degree of public administration and public policy from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

 

Ms. Birbal currently serves on the Board of Directors of Women in Government Relations (WGR) - the premier, non-partisan professional society dedicated to advancing and empowering women by fostering professional development and growth opportunities through a community that supports women’s leadership in government relations. She is a member of the Tax Coalition, which provides a forum for the exchange of ideas among professionals in federal tax policymaking to encourage the professional development of women in federal tax policy and Birbal also serves as a Director-at-large on George Mason University’s Alumni Board.

Ariel Meyerstein is responsible for USCIB policy and programs on corporate responsibility, international labor standards and corporate governance. He manages USCIB engagement with its affiliated organizations – the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Organization of Employers (IOE), and the Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC) to the OECD – as well as U.S. government agencies and United Nations agencies on international corporate responsibility principles, codes of conduct and multi-stakeholder initiatives, as well as international and transnational regulatory activities on labor and employment policies, sustainable development and corporate governance.

Meyerstein joined USCIB in 2014, with a background in international dispute resolution, human rights and sustainable development. He has published several articles and book chapters on various aspects of human rights law, including war crimes, refugees, transitional justice and the integration of human rights into financial sector risk assessment processes. Prior to joining USCIB, Meyerstein was an associate at Chadbourne & Park, LLP and before that at Debevoise & Plimpton, LLP. He also served as a legal adviser at the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal and as a judicial clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He holds a law degree and a doctorate in jurisprudence and social policy from the University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree in English and human rights from Columbia University.
